New content coming soon

I’ve abandoned this blog for years due to a big change in my personal life but years on I have decided to revive The Happy Little Baker blog “yay”.

I’ve tried and failed so many times to start a new blog as much as I loved this one but it never happened and a few posts in I became bored or unhappy with it. I have posted lots of recipes over different blogs I’ve never continued with so I’m going to bring them all together here.

So this blog is going to be revamped with new recipes and content coming soon – I’ll be back in 2019!

Getting ready for a 1st birthday

It doesn’t seem long ago that I was sitting at home eating my cake that I’d made myself to pass the time and waiting for my little girl to be born; but fast forward almost a year and I’m suddenly planning her first birthday cake!

On the 11th October Alice will be a whole year old.  Wow.

It’s been a very eventful time and although I haven’t baked as much as I though I might have whilst I was on maternity leave it’s something I wouldn’t have missed for the world.

For her birthday I am planning on making 2 birthday cakes, the first will be a small cake which will be for her actual birthday.  We are celebrating by taking her to a safari park along with her grandparents. I think this cake will be quite simple with plenty of number 1s all over it.

The second birthday cake is taking a lot more planning as it’s for her party in which most of the family are invited!

I’m having a little difficulty in planning this cake because I am not yet fully sure on the theme of it.  The party is going to be a little mad hatter’s tea party but her favourite thing at the moment is the show In the Night Garden.
So my brain is working overtime trying to pin it down!  Now in my excited parent delirium I am considering making fondant figures for the cake.  Oh dear, I might have ideas beyond my skill level but I’m sure I’ll come up with something.

It might not be perfect but it’ll be home made, with love… and we can always stick a candle in.

Baking and working on my cookbook

Unfortunately I haven’t had too much time, since returning to work from maternity leave, to do much baking recently… but I have tried.

Little sneak peek of what I've been baking

I’ve been concentrating on my ideas for my recipe book and luckily returning to work has given me a chance to have lots of unsuspecting guinea pigs colleagues to test my new creations on.

Writing a cook book will definitely be a slow process the way I am doing it but it will come together one day.  Besides,  I’m in no rush.

I’m finally going to do it. I’m going to write a cookbook.

When I was a little kid my parents used to drive past a shop that was called a Book Makers, I thought it sounded like a fantastic place to have your books made and decided that one day I would love to write a book. It took me a few years before I found out a book makers was actually a betting shop but the idea has always stuck in my mind that I wanted to have my own published work.

After thinking about what I would like to write my cookbook on I have noticed that one blog post more than any other generates a lot of traffic; almost every day someone looks at my blog specifically for that recipe that I created. It sparked something in my brain and now I feel like I cant relax with so many thoughts going around inside my head. One thing is for sure, I will write a cookbook. Nowadays my book with probably be published in ebook format but hopefully if it isn’t too expensive I could print myself a few copies so that I could finally have it on my bookshelf and keep one aside to give to my daughter when she is older.

My brain is buzzing with ideas, photographs, layouts and of course recipes. I am not going to reveal anything at the moment, just that I have lined up some testers of my friends and will be really starting to put this together. I am very lucky to know graphic designers, my cousin is a very talented artist and I am ok with a camera (don’t judge me on what I do on here – they are taken on my phone!) so over the next few years or so I will build this up. I know it wont be a quick process and I wont make my millions but it will fulfil my dream.
